Supporting Firefighters and Those Displaced by Fires
As fire season intensifies here in Northern California and across the country, the dangers faced by our communities grow exponentially. Yet, while we often focus on the devastation to homes and the displacement of families, it's essential to remember those on the front lines—the firefighters who risk everything to protect us.
You might be surprised to learn that a significant number of firefighters, particularly federal wildland firefighters, live with limited income. These brave individuals often face housing instability, with some even experiencing homelessness. Despite their critical role, many are underpaid, earning roughly $15/hour, making it difficult to afford basic necessities, including stable housing.
At Simply the Basics, our Disaster Relief program is dedicated to providing essential support to those displaced by fires and natural disasters but our commitment doesn’t stop there. We recognize the needs of the firefighters who battle these blazes, and we are here to support them as well. Whether it's providing supplies like eye drops or adult diapers, we listen to their specific requests to help those who help us.

As we move deeper into fire season, the need for support grows. We urge our community to come together and assist those who are most vulnerable—both the displaced and the defenders. Your contributions can help ensure that those who risk their lives to protect us have the resources they need to care for themselves and their families.
